Introducing the HDX-BD1 – a worthy successor to the popular and MPC Best Value rated HDX-1000. Building on the strengths of the previous generation, the newest model features a number of key improvements and is still the ultimate all-in-one solution for streaming all of your stored digital content on the big screen TV at up to 1080p full-HD resolutions.

 

With a new Sigma Designs SMP8642 chip running at 667MHz with floating point coprocessor and 1GB of internal flash memory, the HDX-BD1 streams your stored movies, music, pictures and documents with ease. Dressed in a full aluminum casing, the player sports a brushed finish and is sure to please the eye. In a study of form follows function, the 100% aluminum enclosure not only looks great but also serves as an efficient heat sink. The passive thermal management allows the player to operate with 0dB inherent noise output, a critical but often overlooked characteristic in home theater components.

 

The professional design is consistent throughout the product, from the color-matched remote to the newly revamped and highly user-friendly Voir interface. Here’s a quick overview of a few key features:

 

Full 1080p Resolution

The gold-plated HDMI v1.3a connector enables the display of 1080p content in all its glory. The long compatibility list includes playback of .mkv and .mov formatted media files and H.264 video codec.

Blu-ray Compatible

Retail Blu-ray and DVD discs can be read from an external drive, using either USB 2.0 or eSATA connections. Full Blu-ray structures are also supported, either streamed over the network or from internal/external hard drive.

User-Friendly Interface via HDX Voir

The graphical menus are both minimalist and beautiful at the same time. The start-up menu presents six floating icons set against a deep black background, providing direct access to an external BD/DVD drive, internal hard drive, LAN network, USB drive, settings and web browser.

Web Browsing

HDX-BD1 supports basic internet browsing with wireless Bluetooth desktop capability. Also works with USB wired and wireless keyboard and mouse combos. Now you can search the internet, view your favorite websites, email, Facebook, etc. all from the comfort of your living room couch!

BitTorrent and UseNet Client

Operates as a standalone BitTorrent or Usenet downloader. You can run this concurrently with your PC – it’s like having an extra computer in the home to download torrents 24/7.

Easy Hard Drive Installation

This is a huge improvement over the previous model where you had to fuss with unscrewing the bottom cover. Instead, just slide one of the side panels open, fit a 3.5” HDD into the bay, connect the cables, close the panel and you’re done!
