WP100PDA is similar to Mobile Crossing Waypoint 100/105 except that it does not have the CF GPS receiver. This unit includes the PDA, mapping software, and charging cradle. Add a GPS receiver and you will have a high quality GPS system.
The Waypoint PDA already has the mapping software installed with support for a GPS receiver although this model does not include one. Adding a GPS receiver will enhance the mapping application considerably although it will work like MapQuest without a GPS. It can generate routes with turn by turn instructions.
There are three ways to add GPS capabilities.
- A Bluetooth GPS can be used if you add a CF BT adapter. BT software for the CF version sold at this site is already built into the firmware. The BT GPS will be found on COM 8 in the WayPoint navigation software.
- A CF GPS receiver can be added. This will be found on COM 3 in the WayPoint navigation software.
- A serial GPS receiver can be added to the serial port on the bottom of the unit using an iPAQ compatible serial cable. This is likely the least expensive solution. GPS receivers can either be stand alone devices with a serial cable attached or the GPS mouse like devices using a serial output. Note that a iPAQ serial adapter may be required in addition to the device. The WayPoint navigation software will find this device on COM 1.
