Skype Problem - Questions about the Skype Out Credit

We have received numerious calls for questions about the Skype Credit. We would like to document the details in the following so that anybody who needs the information can find it here, too.

skypelogo1. What's the Skype Out rate to different countries?

The detailed rate chart is at HERE.

2. Will my credit ever Expire?

Skype credit is not like your money in the bank. Using it is similar to using a pre-paid cellular phone service. Just as the pre-paid minutes will expire within a certain period after activation, you will lose your Skype credit after non-usage within 180 consecutive days (around 6 months). The system will automatically send out warnings to you via email before taking the credit away. On the other hand, there is a chance that your junk mail filter will shift the notice to the junk email box. It is better to make a quick short call if you believe you have not used your Skype Out credit for a long time. If your credit disappears without any reason, you can send a support request email to this address. However, please note that Skype support staff are currently overwhelmed by a vast number of emails. The average waiting period before receiving a response is 4 days.

Currently, there are four major ways to buy Skype Credit: Paypal, Moneybookers, bank transfer and credit card services. The available payment options might vary in different countries. For users in the US, using PayPal is a good way to purchase credit. If you are a new user to Skype, for some security reasons, they won't allow you to use credit cards to buy credit. However, after a certain period of time utilizing Skype service, they will make the credit card payment option available to you.

4. My Skype account has been Blocked.

Skype has implemented a fraud detection system on their program to protect their users. If your account has experienced the following symptoms, there is a chance that your account will be blocked:

  • An unauthorized third party has hijacked your account and is using your credits.
  • An unauthorized third party has stolen your bank details to buy credits.
  • Accessing your account from a known illegal IP address or from a known fraudulent destination.
  •

If your account has been blocked, you will need to send a request to the Skype Support. Again, the average waiting period for a response is 4 days.

    5. Is there a way to see my Skype Out Credit usage history?

Yes, in the Skype program window, click on the Account tab on the tool bar. Then, click on the "View your Account" button. From there, you can see a summary of your account usage and activity history.
