Tips and Random Notes
Continuous monitoring of infant: This is not a toy and the monitoring must be performed under constant adult supervision. It is important that the infant does not tangle up with the probe. This is especially true when the infant is capable of pulling things and can move his body around. Attach the probe to his feet, run the cable towards the end of the bed away from his body, and secure the cable so that he cannot grab the cable or tangle himself.
One approach is to secure the cable onto the bed sheet using safety pins, cover the cable with another bed sheet leaving only a few inches for attaching the probe to the baby, and then tuck the ends of the both bed sheets tightly and firmly under the mattress.
Bluetooth power class: 2 (Max power 2.5mW, 10 meters)
Connection problem: The primary reasons for the software's failure to find CMS50EW are driver installation and conflicts with existing installed programs. Contec CMS50EW uses the driver CP210x USB to UART Bridge from Silicon Labs. This kind of problem is common to all devices using USB serial IO ports. See Device Connection Issues for more details.
Third party Bluetooth driver: The manufacturer has reported that some third party drivers may cause problems (such as IVT). The recommendation is to uninstall these drivers and use the generic Bluetooth driver that comes with Windows.
Charging the battery: If the battery does not last as long as you expected, one possibility is that the battery is not fully charged. Try charging the battery overnight or use another USB charger, such as the one that comes with iPhone. The power indicator on the unit is not very precise.
WIN7 32-bit Bluetooth Update: BCM2046 Bluetooth Module update from Broadcom would cause problem with the Bluetooth connection. This update is normally embedded within an update bundle and you have to go into the details to find out if this particular update was included or not. Unstall this update would solve the problem.
Save your current recorded session to a computer before attempting to record for a second time; otherwise the first recording would be lost.
Data files: Each upload is saved a data file on your computer. It is normally in a subfolder where SpO2 Assistant software is installed and has a file extension of SpO2. For example, on my computer, the data files are saved in "c:\Program Files\SpO2 Assistant\Data." If you cannot find the file locations, use Windows search function to look for files with SpO2 extension.
Battery replacement: The battery is at the back of the machine. Remove the back cover and then replace the battery. Some soldering is required. The back cover is glued to the body, so remove the cover carefully. The battery can charge and discharge no less than 500 times. A 3.7v rechargeable lithium battery with the appropriate size is required.
We have opened one CMS50EW and discovered that the battery included is model 552540 1.78Wh 3.7v. This is a battery commonly used in many low-power electronic devices.
